These haiku are in no particular order. The four blocks:
| 'Seasons' | 'Growing' | 'Flying' | 'Heavens' |
are made up as much for the convenience of someone reading from a monitor as for a thematic trend. And they are all 'works in progress'. I tinker with the words and the word order all the time. Enjoy them and then try a few yourself - when the inspiration strikes you.
ROSY SILVER - GOLDEN YELLOW Dawn's rosy silver blends daffodils' yellow gold into morning mists. |
LATE LAMBS Heavy ewe, three lambs legs a-jumble. All twelve hooves waiting for May grass. |
|---|---|
POPLAR FLUFF Late spring. White. Drifting lightly over low blossoms. Last snow? Poplar fluff. |
BEES, LAVENDER & MINT Bees know lavender blossoms are finished when the mintflower opens. |
ROSE of SHARON Rose of Sharon blooms, cool lilac on deep moist green, in summer's dry glare. |
LATE SUMMER SUNLIGHT Late summer sunlight slants across evening fields searching out the gold. |
QUAKING ASPEN "That's quaking aspen." The child saw silver shimmer. Not wind on small leaves. |
SEEING the WIND Who? I have seen it. Racing the whitened grasses up autumn hillsides. |
|---|---|
BUTTERFLY FLUTTERBY I saw, butterfly. Just a ripple in the light, as you fluttered. Bye. |
SEA PINKS FLOWERING Sea pinks. Life between winter storms and summer drought, cliff's edge and mown lawn. |
GREAT WAVE Have you raced the wind great wave, to crash on this rock before the storm ends? |
LITTLE WAVE Have you paced the moon little wave, to smooth these sands before the tide turns? |
BALD EAGLES Laughter in the sky. Bald eagles, in slow circles, joking with a breeze. |
STARLINGS in a SKY Starlings in a sky know movement is not progress. They just love to fly. |
|---|---|
WOOLY BEAR FLYING No cocoon for me! Jump! See the sky! I can fly. Look at the ground - . | |
ANGEL'S STEPS Dawn. Light dew. Soft steps. Angels. A brief respite from eternal brilliance? |
DAFFODILS and TIGERS The last daffodils. The first tiger swallowtails. Glory handed on. |
|---|---|
WIND in the TREES Just a soft whisper. Wind? In treetops? No. Listen! All Nature praying. | |
